SAMSUNG WATCH 4 TO TRACK SLEEP WITH CARTOON ANIMALS

Samsung isn’t anticipated to unveil a new smart watch at its Unpacked presentation this week, but the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic are still on the market. Both smart watches will offer additional health and fitness features including as personalized interval training, sleep coaching, and the option to define body composition targets beginning February 9th. Oh, and it’s also promising improved app compatibility for the new Wear OS platform – though Google Assistant will have to wait a little longer.

Samsung’s latest wristwatch, the Galaxy Watch 4, is powered by a new operating system created in collaboration with Google. However, despite promises of improved Google integration, it did not support Google Assistant when it was first released. That will soon change: You’ll be able to dump Bixby in favor of Google Assistant in the “coming months,” according to Samsung’s announcement ahead of its next Unpacked event, which is expected to focus on phones.

On February 9, the Watch 4 will receive a slew of other health-related software updates. The strangest and most intriguing is sleep coaching, in which Samsung claims to monitor your sleep patterns for a week before assigning you a “sleep animal” to match individual sleep kinds.

Sleep animals:

Unconcerned Lion, Sensitive Hedgehog, Nervous Penguin, Sun Averse Mole, Cautious Deer, Easygoing Walrus, Alligator On The Hunt, and Exhausted Shark are among the animals.

It’s unclear what those animal types imply, or whether Samsung’s coaching will continue to assign new sleep creatures if your sleeping habits change. However, according to Samsung, the sleep coaching feature will entail completing two surveys as well as recording sleep data, after which it will begin a “four- to five-week coaching program that includes missions, checklists, sleep-related articles, meditation guidance, and regular reports to support users as they work towards improving their sleep quality.”

More features of the watch:

The Watch 4 upgrade also includes body composition analysis insights, which are provided by a third-party app, Centr, which is a subscription-based fitness business founded by Chris Hemsworth. Samsung claims that the additional insights are free, but that further in-depth counsel requires a separate subscription app. When the watch was first released last year, Samsung’s body analysis sensor, which employs electrical bioimpedance, attempted to track body fat levels on-wrist, but the data were difficult to interpret.

The new software update will also include new colored watch faces to complement the extra watch straps that will be available soon. The new watch straps will also be available in different materials: a fabric strap and a steel link strap will be available in late February.
