Open source virtual assistant Almond to be renamed as Genie. The announcement of rebranding the virtual assistant Almond has been made earlier by Stanford University open virtual assistant lab. Now this new name completely matches with the virtual assistant’s conversational tech.

Almond or Genie

To invent a complete alternative of Alexa, Google assistant, Dr Monica lam prepared a whole lab for open virtual assistant where they would create a virtual assistant that would store and share information according to the user’s preferences. Soon after Almond gets its popularity the lab has decided to rebrand the assistant as they wanted to come up with a name that will match with it’s functionalities and will be much useful for international users. Before triggering the final name Genie, researchers came out with various different names such as Coco, Mario, Nico and so on.

“Previously, Genie was the name of the conversational tech, and Almond was the assistant,” “From now on, Genie will refer to both, and the project as a whole. It was the simplest option to choose only one name for all aspects of the project.” OVAL member Giovanni Campagna shared in a post.

Oval aims to the platform by working with individual developers and companies and their way of sharing data is quite noticeable as they have created a Thingpedia to connect with developers with the brainstorming concepts for connecting devices with Genie. However, it’s quite noticeable that how companies are storing data and information from people without their consent indirectly but Genie can assure to look into your privacy matters completely. So those who are concerned with privacy issues can opt for Genie anytime.
