Google has upgraded their sleep sensing technology on the 2nd generation of Nest hub to track down your midnight activities like sleeping, breathing, snoring or coughing. Besides that, the smart display will provide you all the detailed insights and suggestions to improve your sleep.

Google Nest and Sleep

This latest generation of Nest hub was introduced back in March, improving several features from the previous device. Using the low energy radar motion sense automatically detects movement and breathing of the nearest persons to the display. Besides these, it can measure how long you have slept and how well you have slept.

Nest hub’s 2nd generation doesn’t have any camera, it combines data with audio, temperature and many things that charted overnight to detect user’s complete chart of sleeping style. And with this data Google suggests users with suitable advices on getting better sleep. So this upgradation will help you to get better sleep at every night.

“For those who share their sleeping space with others — partners or pets — now your display will only show coughs and snores that come from your calibrated sleeping area. Any coughing and snoring that happens outside of your area will appear on the new “Other sounds” timeline. This new timeline will also show other loud noises.” Google Nest product manager Ashton Udall states in a blog post.

Google thought of developing this update after discovering the fact that 20% users keep it next to their bed. However, as for now Google has declared that, sleep sensing feature is only available on United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea and other European countries. Google also has stated the fact that this feature will be available for free till 2022. From 2023 users have to spend $10 per month as a subscription of this service.
