At their recent developer conference, they have revealed that this open and universal smart home application protocol, Matter has tied their hands with Samsung for SmartThings and galaxy devices.

Samsung and Matter

Matter was created intending to be the default smart home platform for simplifying decision making process for customers. And with this protocol users don’t need to hover around multiple devices and apps for setting devices up, the whole set up and connection would be much simpler just by using one app. These way users will get a lot more options than stucking with  only one voice assistant or other AI. Also by connecting Smart Things to Matter will give users access to devices unable to connect to SmartThings app. Even they will be able to use SmartThings devices via Apple, Google and other Matter enabled platforms.

head of SmartThings Jaeyeon Jung has stated “Samsung TVs, appliances and Galaxy devices are part of everyday life for millions of people around the world and integrating SmartThings hub functionality into these devices will make it easier for users to experience connected living without additional hardware purchase,”.

Matter is also being used by Samsung as a part of its upgraded Bixby voice assistant and the new Bixby Home platform. Also, as it allow developers to use Bixby Home platform as a language processing filter, it lets AI consider context of command to the connected smart devices.
