SK telecom to collaborate with Rival Samsung by adding their smart assistant and Smart home appliances to SmartThings network.

South Korean SK Telecom and Samsung, both of these giant rivals have decided to tie their hands together by connecting SK Telecom’s voice assistant to Samsung SmartThings smart home network. Samsung made this deal’s announcement right after integrating Matter protocol for it’s smart device control. However, by connecting SK Telecom’s voice assistant Nugu, users will be able to command Nugu to make SmartThings devices work.

Samsung and SKT

This collaborative upgrade will bring Nugu smart speaker to the network of SmartThings platform that means users will be able to access other devices on SmartThings app and also will be able to get things done just by using simple commands.

However, the wake word of SK Telecom’s smart speaker will remain the same as telecom services are still independent. They just took the collaborative support from SmartThings to open up multiple options for integrating  SKT’s T phone and T map services to Samsung’s network range.

Adding, bonus to their users SKT will allow their subscribers to buy or rent 5 types of Samsung home appliances for up to 20% off.

SKT head of subscription marketing Jae-Woong Yoon stated in an announcement “The key to Samsung Electronics’ home appliance rental service introduced this time is that it is not just a rental service, but provides additional value through AI cooperation between the two companies,” 

Besides SKT, noticing this benefits of collaboration trends many other South Korean giants like KT have decided to link their service with LG.
